The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance and Administration will be responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of the organization, along with oversight of administration for this international organization based in Canada. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence; enabling the delivery of impactful programs that transform lives globally.
The Director will be a key partner on the leadership team, contributing to the strategic direction, organizational growth, and operational alignment of WaterAid Canada. They will provide sound financial and administrative stewardship, foster cross-departmental collaboration, and possess advanced financial analysis capabilities; along with excellent interpersonal communication skills, to effectively engage with teams across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, implement and maintain accounting, finance, administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities.
Lead the delivery of corporate and project financial plans, budgets, forecasting and analysis for directors and board of WAC, ensuring appropriate business analysis has been applied.
Prepare all financial reports and metrics required for leadership and board meetings, including a strategic overview of risks and mitigation strategies, and analysis of key variances.
Analyze, monitor and manage cash flow, cost controls, expenses and investments.
Provide quarterly analysis of variance in international program implementation with a focus on risk and mitigation strategies.
Ensure accuracy and timely production of forecasts for the project pipeline and backlog.
Lead the budget development of international projects, oversee accuracy of financial reports and ensure that accurate and timely forecasts are produced.
Provide strategic advice on financial and administrative risk management and develop financial strategy to build cash reserves.
Prepare short and long-term forecasts of financial performance.
Human resource duties: see to appropriate payroll management, manage staff benefits, timely renewal of all staff contracts and monitor compliance with employment legislation.
Liaise with the global counterparts, in the WaterAid Federation, regarding financial planning, management and oversight to ensure the organization meets international standards.
Manage financial audits and compliance reviews while serving as key lead for the Finance and Audit Committee.
Liaise with the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, prepare committee agendas and documents.
See to the organization’s compliance with all CRA requirements for a registered charity.
Must Haves
CPA designation.
Minimum eight years in a senior finance role.
Experience in costing and pricing of services in a project-based nonprofit environment, as well as in project accounting.
Strategic thinker with good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel: Pivot Tables, Lookup Formulas, Excel Charts…).
Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these.
Additional Experience
Familiarity with Adagio or similar accounting software.
Working in an international or multi-cultural organization, or
Overseas in a development context.
Compensation
Salary: $115,000 – $135,000

Work Location: Hybrid
Primarily remote, occasional domestic or international travel may be required for meetings and field visits.
